Some sources date these biscuits back to 1600, furthermore Carlo Goldoni mentions them in 1750 in his work “Il poeta fanatico”.
"Zalo", according to the Venetian dialect, means yellow. The name of these biscuits is in fact due to the color due to the corn flour present in the dough.
